Community Renewal International was birthed in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1994. In this metro area of approximately 300,000 people, as in most cities, you will find a wide array of socio-economic class, race, religion, and diversity.
CRI was started to address the diminishing social capital and rebuild relational systems in depressed neighborhoods of Shreveport, LA. CRI’s focus is to rebuild mutually enhancing relationships. Mutually enhancing relationships and whole healthy communities are built on several key elements: quality accessible education, safety, adequate dignified housing, meaningful work, access to healthcare, strong community based relationships, and a culture of caring. With this in mind CRI developed 3 primary initiatives: Renewal Team (We Care Team), Haven House Block Leaders and Friendship Houses.
